Modernising Your Bathroom!

Bathrooms often become our sanctuary from the pressures of our daily lives, a place where we can relax with a hot shower or soak in the tub and forget about the worries of the world. If you’re thinking of renovating your bathroom, here are a few tips.

Consider who will be using the room and how, then measure the available floor space before looking through magazines and stores for ideas. The best way to figure out space and size of the bathroom design is to tape the bathroom size onto a garage floor, then tape in the bath, shower and vanity to see how much room you have to walk around.

To make the room look bigger, use wide mirrors and large tiles. Consider putting in skylights to brighten the room and reduce energy costs; and perhaps taking 10mm to 20mm off the bottom of the door as the exhaust fan needs  airflow to function properly.

Make sure all cupboards are made from MRMDF (Moisture Resistant Medium Density Fibreboard) rather than particleboard, as the latter will absorb moisture and swell, over time. If at all possible, reuse the existing plumbing for water and waste as it will significantly reduce renovation costs.
