Creating A Tropical Theme
With little chance to getting to go on that tropical holiday at the moment, why not create one in your own backyard!
There are a variety of subtropical to tropical plants that will thrive in the warmer parts of New Zealand, particularly in sheltered spots.
Good choices are palms, tree ferns and ornamental bananas.
The colour scheme is primarily green but you can add colour with plants like hibiscus, passion flowers, orchids or Bromeliad flowers.
Use a focal point such as a gazebo and create a tropical look using the right landscaping materials and potted plants that can be brought in during the colder months.
